Cal State Bakersfield handles Texas-Rio Grande Valley 77-58

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Kevin Mays scored 21 points and hauled in 10 rebounds to lead Cal State Bakersfield to a 77-58 win over Texas-Rio Grande Valley on Thursday night.

Aly Ahmed and Dedrick Basile added 16 points apiece and Damiyne Durham had 12 for the Roadrunners (14-5, 4-0 Western Athletic Conference), who shot 53 percent from the field and controlled the glass 38-30 to extend their win streak to six.

Bakersfield never trailed, scoring the game's first eight points and taking a 40-26 advantage into the break. The Vaqueros (6-14, 2-3) cut the gap to single digits in the second half with an 8-0 burst capped with Dakota Slaughter's 3-pointer to make it 43-38 with 14:14 left but that was as close as they'd get the rest of the way.

Slaughter finished with 12 points and eight rebounds. Shaquille Hines added 11 points and Dan Kimasa had 10 for Texas-Rio Grande Valley.
