Temple tops Tulane 64-56, wins American title
NEW ORLEANS -- Obi Enechionyia scored 18 points and Quenton DeCosey had 15 and Temple closed the regular season on Sunday with a 64-56 victory over Tulane.
Jaylen Bond added 10 points and 16 rebounds for the Owls, who won the American Athletic Conference title outright after No. 24 SMU lost at Cincinnati.
Enechionyia and DeCosey combined for 23 points in the first half when the Owls (20-10, 14-4) opened a 40-27 lead. The Green Wave (10-21, 3-15) pulled within six early in the second half and within five with 20 seconds to play on a 3-pointer by Louis Dabney.
Devin Coleman made a free throw and after a Tulane miss, Josh Brown made two from the line. Temple was 11 of 16 from the foul line in the second half to make up for 26 percent shooting (6 of 23).
Tulane shot just 34 percent and was 4 of 9 from the line.
Dabney and Malik Morgan had 16 points apiece for Tulane.
