Lewis Sullivan scores 22 points, leads UAB over Troy 79-63
TROY, Ala. -- Lewis Sullivan scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Alabama-Birmingham to a 79-63 victory over Troy on Thursday night.
Robert Brown scored 18 points and Dirk Williams 11 for UAB (2-1). Nick Norton had 5 points with 10 rebounds.
Jordon Varnado scored 24 points to lead Troy (2-1). Wesley Person had 13 points and John Walton III 9 points and 10 rebounds. Daniel Peace added 7 points with six assists and three steals.
Person made a 3-pointer to pull the Trojans to 25-24 with five minutes left in the first half. Dirk Williams made a layup and Sullivan scored 5 points to stretch the Blazers lead to 32-24 at halftime.
The Trojans opened the second half with an 8-0 spurt to tie it at 32. Brown made a 3-pointer to spark a 24-6 run, and the Blazers led 56-38 with 8:49 to play. Sullivan scored 9 points during the span.
