South Alabama cruises against Auburn-Montgomery, 88-68
MOBILE, Ala. -- Ken Williams scored 18 points, and Nick Stover added 17 points and nine boards off the bench to lead South Alabama to an 88-68 victory over Auburn-Montgomery in the season opener on Friday night.
Tafari Whittingham finished with 14 points and seven rebounds for the Jaguars, who shot 43 percent from the field, won the rebound battle 51-40, and had 32 points off of the bench.
South Alabama trailed by 7 at the break and 9 early in the second half before posting a 15-1 run capped by a Whittingham jumper. A Steve Barrington jumper with 5:49 left pushed the lead past to double digits (68-57), a mark from which it did not fall the rest of the game.
Phillip Rankin led Auburn-Montgomery with a game-high 27 points. Julius McCoy added 10 points.
