Rice powers through St. Edward's, 93-72
HOUSTON -- Marcus Evans scored 22 points on 7 of 11 shooting and 7 of 9 at the free throw line to help lead Rice to a 93-72 win over Division II St. Edward's on Saturday.
Evans also grabbed six rebounds, dished out six assists, and had four steals.
Egor Koulechov finished with 17 points and 10 boards for Rice (3-6), which shot a blistering 63.8 percent from the field and 52.9 percent from 3-point range.
Rice opened on a 15-2 run, led 42-33 at the half, and never trailed in the game. Connor Cashaw drilled a 3-pointer with 15:21 left which pushed the Owls lead to 20 (59-39) and Evans hit two free throws a little over two minutes later to make the advantage 25 points, the highest of the night.
Ethan Gilbert scored 17 points and Frankie Mgbolu had 11 points to lead the Hilltoppers.
