Quick start carries IUPUI past Southern Utah 82-68
INDIANAPOLIS -- Darell Combs scored 19 points and Marcellus Barksdale added 15 and IUPUI got off to a quick start and defeated Southern Utah 82-68 on Saturday.
Evan Hall added 14 points and Matt O'Leary 12 for the Jaguars (4-9), who raced to a 46-26 lead at the half on their way to ending a three-game losing streak in which they allowed at least 80 points in each loss.
Barksdale hit a 3-pointer five minutes in that started an 11-0 run ended by a Combs 3 that made it 24-10 midway through the first half.
Hall had eight points in a 12-0 run that put the lead at 22.
IUPUI shot 56 percent and, with Combs hitting all three of his 3s, went 6 of 11 behind the arc. Barksdale had seven rebounds and five assists.
Travon Langston had 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Thunderbirds (3-7) and James McGee had 18 points.
