Western Carolina upsets SoCon leader Chattanooga 67-61
CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- Torrion Brummitt scored 16 points and collected 10 rebounds and Western Carolina knocked off Southern Conference leader Chattanooga 67-61 on Thursday night.
Brummit was 8 of 11 from the field while Devin Peterson also scored 16 points and Mike Brown 10 for the Catamounts (10-15, 5-7), who shot 50 percent.
Eric Robertson scored 13 points, Dee Oldham 11 and Tre'McLean 10 to lead the Mocs (22-4, 11-2), who had a nine-game winning streak snapped and their conference lead trimmed to 1 1/2 games over East Tennessee State.
The Catamounts took a 35-19 halftime lead but the Mocs got within six with two minutes to go before Western Carolina finished with nine free throws, six by Rhett Harrelson. Greg Pryor had the Mocs' final points on a 3-pointer with 22 seconds left to trail 65-61 but they missed four 3-pointers after that.
