UTEP opens Coastal Classic with 88-66 win over Alcorn Sate
EL PASO, Texas -- Dominic Artis scored 19 points, Earvin Morris added 18 and Texas-El Paso built a 10-point lead in the first half and cruised to an 88-66 victory over Alcorn State on Sunday night in the first round of the Corpus Christie Coastal Classic.
The Miners (3-0) will play Florida A&M on Tuesday night in a second-round game, then shift to Corpus Christie for the final two games.
UTEP scored 22 points off of 17 Alcorn State turnovers and had 19 second-chance points. The Miners shot 52.8 percent in the second half (19 of 36) to put the game away.
Lee Moore added 15 points, and Hooper Vint had 12 point for UTEP.
Marquis Vance led Alcorn State (0-2) with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Patrick Onwenu added 14 points.
