UTEP dominates Loyola-New Orleans 96-49
EL PASO, Texas -- Lee Moore had 17 points, Dominic Artis added 16 and Hooper Vint had 15 as UTEP opened its 95th basketball season with a dominating 96-49 win over NAIA Loyola-New Orleans on Saturday night.
Artis also had nine rebounds and eight assists. UTEP jumped out to a 21-2 lead midway of the first half and led 53-23 at the break. The Miners pushed the lead to 82-38 with 7:18 left in the game.
UTEP made 14 of 32 (43.8%) field goals in the first half while limiting Loyola to 6 of 28 (21.4%). The Miners shot 47.6 percent for the game and Loyola finished with 30.4 percent.
The Miners scored 50 points in the paint while limiting the Wolf Pack to 18. They also won the rebound battle 56-29.
Nick Parker had 12 points and Johnny Griffin Jr. chipped in 10 for the Wolf Pack.
