Air Force holds off Denver in 61-59 win
DENVER -- Zach Moer scored 15 points and Air Force survived a frantic finish to hold off Denver 61-59 on Saturday.
Moer's jumper with 5:36 to play gave Air Force (6-2) the lead for good at 51-50. Jake Pemberton made two free throws for Denver to cut the deficit to 58-56 with 1:14 remaining. The Falcons' Kyle Broekhuis missed a layup with 50 seconds left.
On Denver's next possession, however, Trevor Lyons stole the ball but Bryant Rucker blocked his layup attempt. Air Force gathered the rebound, called timeout then immediately turned it over.
Denver's Marcus Byrd proceeded to miss a 3 and Zach Kocur made two free throws for Air Force with 18 seconds left to make it 60-56.
Nate Engesser's 3 with eight seconds left made it 60-59.
Moer made one-of-two free throws with six seconds remaining, but Engesser turned the ball over and time expired.
Engesser finished with 20 points for Denver (5-3) but also had four turnovers.
