Northern Colorado holds off Sacramento State 72-67
GREELEY, Colo. -- Jeremy Verhagen and Jordan Wilson drilled two straight 3-pointers in the final 80 seconds to give North Colorado just enough cushion to take a 72-67 win over Sacramento State on Thursday night.
Trailing 63-62, Verhagen hit a trey to take a 65-63 lead. Wilson nailed his with 39 seconds left and the Bears made four free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.
Jordan Davis led Northern Colorado (9-18, 6-9 Big Sky Conference) with 15 points. Verhagen, Anthony Johnson and Dallas Anglin had 11 points apiece for the Bears, who stopped a five-game losing skid.
Sacramento State (11-15, 4-11) was up 42-36 at the break but the Bears won the second period, 36-25. Northern Colorado made 24 of 31 free throws while the Hornets were 12 of 15.
Cody Demps was 6 of 8 from the floor for 18 points and Marcus Graves added 12 for Sacramento State.
