Colgate beats George Mason 66-53
FAIRFAX, Va. -- Tom Rivard scored 23 points off the bench to help lead Colgate to a 66-53 win over George Mason on Friday night in a season opener.
Rivard was 6 of 10 from the field and sank 3 of 5 from 3-point range for the Raiders. Jordan Robertson had 14 points and four rebounds and Jordan Swopshire added 13 points. The team hit 50 percent from the field, including 37.7 percent from the 3-point line.
Colgate led through much of the first half but failed to sink a field goal in the final seven minutes before the break, allowing George Mason to pull ahead 22-20 at halftime.
Midway through the second half, the Raiders mounted a 12-3 run featuring 3-pointers by Rivard and Robertson to take a 38-33 lead with 11:25 to play. A Rivard 3-pointer with 1:18 left extended Colgate's lead to 57-48 and sealed the win.
