Hooley's free throw gives Albany (NY) 74-73 edge over NJIT
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Peter Hooley split a pair of free throws with one second left, and Albany (NY) withstood a late surge to edge NJIT 74-73 on Friday night.
Joe Cremo scored 18 points to lead Albany (3-3). Ray Sanders had 15 points and Evan Singletary added 14. Mike Rowley chipped in six points with 10 rebounds and five assists. Hooley finished with seven points.
Damon Lynn had seven 3-pointers and scored 23 points for NJIT (3-3). Tim Coleman and Winfield Willis added 13 points apiece.
Sanders made back-to-back jumpers and the Great Danes led 69-63 with 2:50 remaining. Lynn made a 3-pointer to pull the Highlanders to 70-68. Sanders split a pair of free throws to make it 71-68 with 46 seconds remaining.
Coleman and Singletary traded layups before Lynn made another 3-pointer to tie it at 73 with eight seconds to go before Hooley made the game-winning free throw.
