Harvey's 42 carry Eastern Washington to Big Sky semifinals
MISSOULA, Mont. -- Tyler Harvey scored a career-high 42 points on Thursday, carrying second-seeded Eastern Washington over No. 7 seed Idaho 91-83 in the Big Sky Conference tournament opener.
Harvey, the nation's leading scorer, finished 8 for 12 from 3-point range. He also tied Anthony Johnson's conference tournament record (Montana, 2010) and Wayne Estes' Dahlberg Arena record (Utah State, 1964).
Drew Brandon scored back-to-back layups to cap a 15-2 run and put the Eagles (24-8) ahead 85-75 with 1:07 left.
Eastern Washington advanced to the semifinals to face No. 3 seed Sacramento State on Friday.
Harvey made four 3-pointers in the first four minutes of the second half and scored 19 during the first 10 minutes. With 10:41 left, the Eagles turned a 3-point halftime deficit to a 64-54 lead.
The Vandals (13-17) had a 16-3 rally to go back up by three with just under six minutes left. Connor Hill led Idaho with 23 points.
