Saint Peter's beats MAAC's conference leader Iona, 68-60
JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- Desi Washington scored 19 points and Tyler Gaskins added 16 as Saint Peter's beat conference leader Iona 68-60 on Sunday to lock up the No. 7 seed in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament.
Gaskins hit a 3-pointer from the wing with 1:54 left to give Saint Peter's a 63-56 lead. The Peacocks went without a field goal the rest of the way, but Washington made 4 of 4 free throws in the final 20 seconds to seal it.
Iona (24-7, 17-3) had already clinched the No. 1 seed in the MAAC tournament, but had its 11-game winning streak snapped.
Marvin Dominique added 10 points with seven rebounds for Saint Peter's (14-17, 8-12), who snapped a four-game losing streak.
The Peacocks led 38-29 at halftime after shooting 56 percent and holding Iona to 9-of-26 shooting (34.6 percent).
A.J. English scored 17 points, Kelvin Amayo added 15, and David Laury had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Iona.
