Maryland-Eastern Shore beats South Carolina State 68-56
ORANGEBURG, S.C. -- Devin Martin scored 22 points, Michael Myers added 17 and Maryland-Eastern Shore beat South Carolina State 68-56 on Saturday.
UMES (16-13, 9-5 Mid-Eastern) avenged a Jan. 19 overtime loss to the Bulldogs, clinching a winning record for the first time since the 1993-94 season. It was the Hawks' 10th road win of the season.
South Carolina State (10-18, 7-6) was led by freshman guard Ed Stephens with 22 points on 7-of-8 shooting.
UMES led by as many as nine in the first half, but it was tied at 51 with 9:19 to go when UMES went on a 5-0 spurt to go up 56-51 with 6:09 left.
Martin nailed a 3-pointer with 4:16 left to put UMES up 60-53.
UMES led 41-34 at the break as Myers had 13 points before intermission. The Hawks turned 19 SCSU turnovers into 18 points.
