Delaware State races to 104-92 win over Coppin State
BALTIMORE -- Amere May scored a season-high 40 points and Kendall Gray 33 points and 30 rebounds, both career highs, to lead Delaware State to a 104-92 win over Coppin State on Thursday night.
May had 14 points and Gray 12 as the Hornets (15-15, 9-7 Mid-Eastern) took a 34-29 lead at the half. Then the Hornets made 21 of 32 field goals (65.6 percent) and 24 of 33 free throws to score 70 points in the second half.
Christian Kessee had 15 of his career-high 24 in the second half for the Eagles (7-22, 6-10), who made 21 of 42 shots, including seven 3-pointers, 13 of 18 free throws after the break. Kessee finished 9 of 11, including 4 of 5 on 3s.
Coppin State had 26 total rebounds to 51 for Delaware State.
Gray went 12 of 13 from the field and 9 of 16 from the foul line. May was 13 of 24 shooting, including 6 of 10 from 3-point range, and made all eight of his free throws.
