Gray leads Delaware St over SC State 60-49
DOVER, Del. -- Kendall Gray scored 16 points and grabbed a career-high 23 boards to lead Delaware State over cold-shooting South Carolina State 60-49 on Saturday.
SC State (5-14, 3-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic) led 31-26 at the break and despite a slow second-half start, tied the score at 39 with 13:50 left to play. The Bulldogs then went cold, going the next 7:01 without scoring to give the Hornets an eight-point lead. Karon Wright hit a 3-pointer to bring SC State within one with 5:53 to go, but the Bulldogs scored just three more points the rest of the way, finishing at 18-of-68 shooting (26.5 percent).
Gray was 7 of 14 from the floor, and led the Hornets (8-9, 2-1) with five assists and five blocks. Amere May added 16 points.
Edward Stephens finished with 13 points, the only SC State player to score in double figures.
