Norfolk State beats Savannah State 70-54
SAVANNAH, Ga. -- RaShid Gaston had 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting and grabbed 13 rebounds as Norfolk State beat Savannah State 70-54 Monday night.
Norfolk State (14-9, 7-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) took control late in the first half and held the Tigers (5-15, 1-5) at bay throughout the second.
Jordan Butler put the Spartans up 54-39 with 7:11 left and D'Shon Taylor's dunk with 22 seconds left capped a 15-4 run which stretched the lead to 19 points.
Norfolk State closed the first half on a 12-4 run for a 31-21 halftime lead and Savannah State got no closer than 39-33 with 14:20 left in the second.
Jeffrey Short added 16 points, Taylor scored 13 and Jamel Fuentes 10. Butler had five blocks for the Spartans, who shot 28 for 45 (62.2 percent) from the field.
Brian Pearson had 14 points, Terel Hall scored 12 and Saadiq Muhammad 10 for the Tigers.
