Hofstra comes back, beats UNC-Wilmington 68-56
WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Ameen Tanksley and Juan'ya Green each scored 15 points, leading Hofstra to a 68-56 come-from-behind victory over UNC-Wilmington in a Colonial Athletic Association opener on Saturday.
UNC-Wilmington led 36-25 at the break. The Pride briefly went ahead by one point with 12:59 left in the second, but fell behind again until they tied it at 53-all with 5:59 to go.
Hofstra went up 59-53 before Addison Spruill made a 3-pointer to end the Pride's 10-0 run. Hofstra (10-4, 1-0) made its final nine points from the line to end it.
Both Green and Tanksley shot cold from the floor -- Green 2 of 10 and Tanksley 3 of 13 -- but combined for 18 points from the free-throw line. Green was 8 of 10 on free throws in the final five minutes.
Craig Ponder scored 13 points and CJ Gettys and Spruill each added 11 for UNCW (5-7, 0-1).
