New Hampshire holds off UMBC 63-60
BALTIMORE -- Jacoby Armstrong scored 16 points to help New Hampshire hold off Maryland-Baltimore County 63-60 on Sunday.
Daniel Dion added 13 points while Matt Miller and Jaleen Smith had 11 apiece for the Wildcats (8-8, 1-2 American East).
Wayne Sparrow had 17 of his 21 points in the second half to lead the Retrievers (2-13, 0-2) but his 3-pointer with four seconds left missed the mark. Jourdan Grant added 18 points and Cody Joyce had 14 and 10 rebounds.
Sparrow made consecutive 3-pointers to tie the game at 50 with 6:36 to go but Matt Miller put UNH ahead for good with a 3 at 5:21. Sparrow ended his run of 12-straight UMBC points with two free throws at 2:18 but Tanner Leissner hit a 3-pointer for a five-point lead with 1:51 to go. When the Retrievers got close, Leissner and Smith combined for six free throws inside 30 seconds.
