O'Day leads Vermont's comeback win over Stony Brook, 57-48
STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Ethan O'Day and Brandon Hatton combined to score 24 of their 29 points in the second half and Vermont overcame a 17-point, second-half deficit to beat Stony Brook 57-48 on Saturday night.
O'Day finished with 17 points and nine rebounds and Hatton, who was scoreless in the first half, made 4 of 5 field goals, including 2 of 2 from 3-point range, after halftime.
Vermont (14-10, 9-2 America East) shot just 14.8 percent (4 of 27), going 0 for 9 from beyond the arc, in the first half and trailed 29-15 at the break. It was the Catamounts' lowest-scoring half of the season.
Stony Brook (15-10, 6-4) pushed its lead to 17 with 14:30 left, but back-to-back three-point plays by Dre Wills and Cam Ward sparked a 28-8 run and gave Vermont took a 49-46 lead when O'Day hit his fourth consecutive jumper with 1:44 remaining.
Hatton hit a 3 with 57 seconds left and Vermont hit 5 of 6 free throws to seal it.
Jameel Warney had 14 points and 15 rebounds for Stony Brook, giving him 16 double-doubles this season, tied for most in Division I.
