UMBC sails by Maine, 76-69
BANGOR, Maine -- Cody Joyce scored a career high 28 points and added eight rebounds to lead UMBC to a 76-59 victory over Maine on Thursday night.
Jourdan Grant tied his career high with 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting, and Wayne Sparrow finished with eight points, nine assists, and four steals for the Retrievers (3-16, 1-5 America East Conference), whose win snaps a seven-game losing skid.
UMBC controlled all aspects of the game, shooting 52.9 percent from the field, outrebounding Maine 37-28, and forcing 15 Black Bears turnovers.
The Retrievers led by just five at the half, but had a 9-2 run early in the second period to seize control for good.
Kevin Little scored 15 points to lead Maine (1-18, 0-6), which has lost 13 consecutive games. Zarko Valjarevic added 14 points for the Black Bears.
