CCSU gets first win, tops Hartford 56-47
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- Brandon Peel scored 16 points and pulled down an equal number of rebounds to help power Central Connecticut State to its first win of the season, knocking off Hartford, 56-47 on Saturday night.
The double-double was Peel's second of the season, the only two thus far for Central Connecticut State (1-7).
Peel had 10 points in the first half as the Blue Devils fashioned a nine-point lead they nursed through the second half.
Matt Mobley and Khalen Cumberlander contributed 13 and 11 points, respectively, as CCSU shot 20 of 47 from the field (42.6 percent) while its defense limited Hartford to just 28.8 percent from the field (17 of 59). Faronte Drakeford pulled down 12 rebounds as the Blue Devils held a 42-37 advantage on the glass.
Mark Nwakamma had 16 points to lead the Hawks (5-4), with Corban Wroe and Taylor Dyson adding 14 and 13 points, respectively.
