Tennessee State tops Tennessee Tech 64-56 for first OVC win
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Jay Harris hit 5 of 7 3-pointers and scored 19 points and Tennessee State won its first Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday night, 64-56 over Tennessee Tech.
Harris had 11 points in the first half as the Tigers (4-18, 1-6) opened a 32-22 lead and pushed that to 13 with 8:30 left. The Golden Eagles (10-12, 2-7) never got closer than eight.
Torrance Rowe scored 16 points for Tennessee Tech, 13 in the second half, and Dwan Caldwell added 12 and 11 rebounds.
Tennessee State shot 49 percent and was 6 of 9 behind the arc. However, the Tigers were only 10 of 21 from the line, going 7-14 in the second half. Charles Tucker added 11 points and Christian Mekowulu had 9 points and 10 rebounds.
The Golden Eagles shot 39 percent, making just 7 of 26 from 3-point range, and were only 9 of 16 from the foul line.
