Valdes, Hawaii knock off UC Davis 84-76
HONOLULU -- Aaron Valdes has 21 points and Hawaii knocked off the last unbeaten team in the Big West Conference with an 84-76 win over UC Davis on Thursday night.
Hawaii (14-6, 2-2) pulled away with a 17-3 run in the second half to lead 71-47 on Stefan Jovanovic's jumper with 11:30 left. Stefan Jankovic and Mike Thomas added 13 points each for the Rainbow Warriors.
UC Davis (14-4, 4-1) ended the game on a 15-4 run, but the outcome was never in doubt as Tyler Les scored six of those points on free throws with three seconds left after a pair of technical fouls against Hawaii.
Corey Hawkins had 19 points to lead the Aggies, who led 21-14 in the first half. From there Hawaii outscored Davis 32-12 over an 11-minute stretch and went into halftime with a 48-37 lead.
Isaac Fleming had six of Hawaii's 18 steals. Davis shot 52.3 percent but had 24 turnovers.
