Texas A&M-Corpus Christi upsets Sam Houston State 61-59
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- John Jordan scored 19 points, grabbed eight rebounds and had six assists and three steals as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi upset Sam Houston State 61-59 in Southland Conference play on Saturday night.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (16-12, 11-5) has now beaten both conference leaders, shocking Stephen F. Austin 71-63 on February 14. SFA (24-4, 14-1) is alone atop the conference standings. SHSU (22-6, 13-2) fell to second. The Islanders are in fourth behind Northwestern State.
Joe Kilgore slammed home a dunk and the Islanders took a 42-41 lead at the 8:16 mark. SHSU closed to 55-53 with 1:57 left but Ehab Amin answered with a layup and Jordan made two free throws for a 59-56 lead with :52 remaining and the Islanders held on for the win.
Bryce Douvier added 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Islanders.
Paul Baxter with 15 points and DeMarcus Gatlin with 14 led SHSU.
