Lamar holds on to beat Houston Baptist 72-64
BEAUMONT, Texas -- Marcus Owens made 3 of 6 from beyond the arc and scored 20 points to lead Lamar to a 72-64 victory over Houston Baptist in Southland Conference action on Monday night.
Owens made 7 of 10 field goals, 3 of 4 free throws and had three steals. Anthony Holliday scored 18, on 6-of-11 shooting, and Tyran de Lattibeaudiere added 16 points and 14 rebounds for Lamar (13-12, 7-6).
The Cardinals led since midway of the first half and were ahead 51-37 at the 14:11 mark. The Huskies, who beat Lamar 79-77 in Houston on Jan. 24, charged back. Jourdan Stickler nailed a 3-pointer to start a 12-4 run as Houston Baptist closed to 59-57 with 5:06 remaining. Lamar scored the next seven points for a 66-57 lead with 1:09 left.
Anthony Odunsi led Houston Baptist (12-11, 6-7) with 12 points.
