HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- Kaheem Ransom scored 18 points and Sam Houston State crushed Lamar 79-50 on Monday.
Sam Houston State never trailed as they held a 42-33 rebounding advantage, had eight steals and six blocked shots -- four from Michael Holyfield. Lamar was 1 of 13 from beyond the arc and made just 9 of 20 from the line.
Sam Houston State (17-5, 9-1 Southland) built a 22-8 lead over the first 10 minutes -- fueled by 10 points from Kaheem Ransom -- and led 37-22 at intermission.
The lead reached 20 early in the second half in the middle of a 13-point run on Aurimas Majauskas' layup. A few moments later, it grew to a 30-point advantage on Dakarai Henderson's 3-pointer.
Holyfield, Paul Baxter and Majauskas had 11 points apiece for Sam Houston. Holyfield grabbed 11 rebounds and Majauskas had nine.
Anthony Holliday led Lamar (11-11, 5-5) with 14 points.
