Western Kentucky wins 7th straight; 65-58 over FIU
MIAMI -- George Fant had his sixth straight double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead Western Kentucky past Florida International 65-58 on Saturday for its seventh consecutive win.
Western Kentucky (12-5, 5-0 Conference USA) is off to its best start in conference play in 22 seasons. The Hilltoppers haven't started the conference season 5-0 since 1992-93.
Justin Johnson added 11 points for Western Kentucky. Fant was 6 of 15 from the field and 8 of 10 from the free throw line as the Hilltoppers were 22 of 32 from the stripe compared to 10 of 17 for FIU.
Dennis Mavin led Florida International (9-9, 2-3) with 21 points. Daviyon Draper had 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Adrian Diaz added 11 points.
FIU cut its deficit to three points twice in the final 1:30, but Johnson and Brandon Price had an answer for WKU.
