Rice wins C-USA opener over Texas-San Antonio 67-52
HOUSTON -- Marcus Jackson hit five 3-pointers and scored 27 points to lead Rice to a 67-52 win over Texas-San Antonio in the Conference USA opener on Friday.
The Owls (4-8) shot 55 percent from the field, making half of their 22 3-point attempts. They also made 10 of 11 free throws. Max Guercy added 13 points and five assists.
Jerome Hill led the Roadrunners (5-6) with 15 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. UTSA only shot 34.6 percent (18-52), making just 4 of 22 treys and 12 of 22 free throws.
Rice, which led 29-22 at the half, had a 10-0 run early in the second half to go up 44-25. Maurice Rivers got it started with a 3 and then Jackson scored the next seven, ending it with a 3.
UTSA was within 10 with 3:06 left but Jackson hit a 3-pointer to end the threat.
