Mitola, Maldunas lead Dartmouth past NJIT 62-53
HANOVER, N.H. -- Alex Mitola scored 15 points, Gabas Maldunas added 12 with five blocks and Dartmouth defeated New Jersey Institute of Technology 62-43 on Saturday.
Connor Boehm finished with 11 points, while Miles Wright and Maldunas each grabbed four steals for the Big Green (7-8). Dartmouth shot 42.2 percent from the field, hit 20 of 25 free throws and forced 23 turnovers.
Winfield Willis sank four 3-pointers to lead NJIT (10-10) with 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting overall. Rob Ukawuba chipped in 12 points and Tim Coleman had 11 for the Highlanders, who saw their five-game winning streak snapped.
Dartmouth gained some cushion early with a 9-0 run sparked by a layup and dunk from Wright and moved toward a 23-16 halftime lead. Mitola drilled two 3-pointers and made four straight free throws to make it 44-30 with 7:27 remaining. NJIT couldn't pull closer than eight the rest of the way.
