Grand Canyon knocks off New Mexico 68-65
PHOENIX -- Joshua Braun, who scored 18 points, intercepted an inbounds pass in the final seconds to secure Grand Canyon's 68-65 victory over New Mexico on Tuesday night.
Braun made 4 of 10 3-point attempts, had four steals and three blocks. Daniel Alexander came off the bench to make 9 of 10 free throws for 17 points. Dewayne Russell chipped in 10 for Grand Canyon (7-7).
It was a seesaw battle until Jerome Garrison nailed a 3-point jumper that started an 11-4 run and gave Grand Canyon a 56-48 lead at the 5:01 mark. Alexander dunked for a 58-50 advantage with 2:44 left and the Antelopes made the needed free throws for the win.
The difference was in the 3-pointers. Grand Canyon was 9 of 24 from long range and New Mexico was only 4 of 18.
Hugh Greenwood had 20 for the Lobos (8-4), who had won five straight before this game.
