Rowsey scores 24 and UNC Asheville beats Longwood 74-64
FARMVILLE, Va. -- Andrew Rowsey scored 24 points and UNC Asheville beat Longwood 74-64 on Wednesday night.
Jaleel Roberts added a career-high 14 points, 12 in the second half, and Ahmad Thomas 11 for the Bulldogs (10-10, 6-3 Big South), who shot just 40.4 percent -- still better than the Lancers' 35.5.
Asheville had 49 rebounds, including 18 on the offensive glass. Sam Hughes led with 11 boards.
Rowsey, who moved into 28th place on Asheville's career scoring list with 1,031 points, scored 16 in the first half which ended with the Bulldogs leading 37-31. Longwood got within a point, 46-45, with 13:59 left but the Bulldogs answered with a 17-3 run over the next 6:12. Longwood got within seven with 55 seconds left but Asheville closed the scoring with three free throws.
Quincy Taylor led the Lancers (6-16, 2-7) with 25 points. Shaquille Johnson and Leron Fisher added 11 points apiece.
