VMI forces 25 turnovers, defeats ETSU 85-79
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Trey Chapman and Fred Iruafemi scored 16 points each as VMI forced 25 turnovers to defeat Eastern Tennessee State 85-79 on Saturday.
The turnovers were a season high for ETSU, which led 68-64 after Jalen Riley sank a pair of free throws and a 3-pointer with five minutes left.
Iruafemi knocked down two jump shots and a layup and Brian Brown hit a 3-pointer as VMI (7-12, 3-5 Southern) surged into a 73-68 lead, and VMI closed out the game hitting 6 of 8 foul shots in the final 1:15.
Riley knocked down a 3 as ETSU closed to 73-71 but fouled out and the Keydets held on for the win.
Rashawn Rembert led the Buccaneers (10-6, 5-3) with 19 points including five 3-pointers. Riley added 13 points with three 3-pointers. A.J. Merriweather also scored 13, Devin Harris 11 and Lester Wilson 10.
Brown finished with 15 points for VMI.
