FGCU gets by Nova Southeastern 63-51
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Jamail Jones scored 17 points and Marc-Eddy Norelia had 16 to lead Florida Gulf Coast to a 63-51 win over Division II Nova Southeastern on Saturday.
Norelia grabbed 13 rebounds and Jones had 10 more for FGCU (1-0). Brett Comer added 11 points and had 11 assists for the Eagles.
Brian Cahill led Nova Southeastern with 17 points, including four 3-pointers. The Sharks were held to 36.4 percent shooting and were outrebounded 42-31.
FGCU led 34-33 at halftime after only making 11 of 30 shots. The Eagles pulled away at the start of the second half. Comer's basket at the 15:39 mark sparked a 10-0 run to extend its lead to 52-41 with 10:35 left.
Troy Spears pulled Nova Southeastern within 54-49 with 4:26 remaining, but Jones scored the next seven points for a 61-49 advantage.
