Miami (Ohio) rallies to upset Kent State 86-81 in overtime
OXFORD, Ohio -- Eric Washington tied his career high with 24 points -- including seven in overtime -- as Miami (Ohio) capped a 19-point rally to force OT and went on to defeat conference-leading Kent State 86-81 on Tuesday night.
Miami (Ohio) (12-16, 7-8 Mid-American Conference) is on a four-game win streak, but getting there didn't seem likely. Kent State (19-9, 10-5) was holding a 64-45 lead with just over eight minutes left. The RedHawks' Geovonie McKnight started the rally with two straight layups off Willie Moore steals. Moore added the next five points with two baskets and a free throw.
McKnight hit a layup to force OT at 77-77. Washington scored seven of the RedHawks' nine points in OT. Jaryd Eustace hit two free throws to ice it.
Jimmy Hall, who returned last week after missing five games to mononucleosis, scored 24 points for Kent State, which fell into a first-place tie with Bowling Green.
