Lafayette leads early, beats Army 74-64
EASTON, Pa. -- Dan Trist scored 24 points -- 20 in the first half -- and Lafayette held on to an early lead to beat Army 74-64 on Saturday and clinch the No. 4 seed in the Patriot League Tournament.
Lafayette (17-12, 9-9) will play fifth-seeded Boston University on Thursday in the quarterfinals. No. 10 Army (15-14, 6-12) will open tournament play against seventh-seeded Navy on Tuesday.
The Leopards were up 41-31 at the half and led by as many as 15 until a run from the Black Knights, including layups from Dylan Cox and Kyle Wilson, cut the difference to six with 9:14 to play. Army's Tanner Plomb made it a two-point game with 3:59 remaining, but Nick Lindner answered with five straight points to keep the Leopards in front.
Lindner had 15 points and nine assists.
Plomb finished with 23 points and Wilson added 22 for the Black Knights.
