Hankerson scores 14 as Boston U defeats American 61-53
WASHINGTON -- Cedric Hankerson scored 14 points and Nathan Dieudonne 13 as Boston University survived 14 turnovers to defeat American University 61-53 on Wednesday night.
A Hankerson jumper with 3:38 left to play put Boston University (12-14, 8-7 Patriot League) up by a dozen points, 49-37. American cut the lead to 51-44 on a Jesse Reed 3-pointer, but Will Goff sank 9 of 10 foul shots for Boston U in the final 1:12.
Goff finished with nine points, not even attempting a field goal, as the Terriers hit 17 of 24 at the free-throw line.
Reed led American (14-13, 7-8) with 17 points, including three 3-pointers, Jalen Rhea scored 12 and John Schoof 11.
The win pushes Boston U into fourth in conference. The top four Patriot League teams get a first round bye in the conference tourney.
