Holy Cross Crusaders @ Sacred Heart Pioneers
Sacred Heart wins third in a row, 81-68
FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Cane Broome had career highs of 25 points and nine rebounds to lead Sacred Heart to an 81-68 victory over Holy Cross on Saturday, the Pioneers' third consecutive win.
Evan Kelley and Jordan Allen added 14 points each for the Pioneers, who at 4-3 are only one victory short from their total all of last season. It was also the first win over Holy Cross since Jan. 2, 2011 with the Crusaders winning the three previous meetings. The three-game winning streak is the first for Sacred Heart since January 2013.
Phil Gaetano added 10 assists for the Pioneers, who shot 55.1 percent compared to the Crusaders' 32.4 percent, including 27.3 percent in the first half. Holy Cross trailed 40-27 at the break.
Anthony Thompson and Justin Burrell scored 16 points apiece for the Crusaders (4-2), whose only previous loss came against Syracuse. Malcolm Miller added 15 points.
