TULSA, Okla. -- Bobby Word sank a game-tying 3-pointer as regulation expired and Oral Roberts defeated IUPUI 69-61 in overtime Wednesday night.
Word's 3 dropped at the buzzer, tying the score 56-56 and sending the game into overtime. He finished with nine points for the Golden Eagles (7-8, 1-1 Summit). Korey Billbury led the team with 23 points and seven rebounds. Denell Henderson added 15 points and 11 rebounds.
The Golden Eagles blew open a 23-23 first-period tie on a 15-6 run early in the second half to lead 38-29 with 14:37 left in regulation. IUPUI battled back to go ahead 56-53 with 13 seconds remaining before Word's 3 tied it up again at the end of regulation.
In overtime, the Golden Eagles soared to an 8-0 start and a 64-56 advantage with 1:39 to play and then held on to win it.
Khufu Najee led the Jaguars (5-11, 1-1) with 11 points.
