Iona Gaels @ Manhattan Jaspers
Iona holds off Manhattan 70-67 with clutch shooting
NEW YORK -- A.J. English and Schadrac Casimir scored 22 points apiece and David Laury made two free throws with 7.5 seconds to play as Iona held off rival Manhattan 70-67 Friday night.
English broke a tie with a 3-pointer with 32 seconds left but Emmy Andujar made two free throws after he was fouled on a putback attempt to make it a one-point game. Laury was fouled before the inbounds pass and hit the clutch free throws.
Manhattan called a timeout at 4.9 seconds but Zane Waterman's long, contest 3 from the left wing wasn't close.
The Gaels (20-6, 13-2 Metro Atlantic) shot 61.1 percent from 3-point range (11-18) and 52.2 percent overall to win their seventh straight and maintain a two game lead in the league. English hit 6 of 9 3s and Casimir 4 of 6.
Andujar had 17 points and Ashton Pankey 16 for the Jaspers (12-12, 9-6).
