Phil Valenti finished with 24 points and six rebounds to lead Canisius to a 64-60 win over Vermont on Saturday.
Josiah Heath had six points and eight rebounds, including five offensive boards and Jan Grzelinski scored 10 points for Canisius. Valenti was 9 of 15, including three 3-pointers, and the Griffins made 8 of 18 shots from behind the arc.
Trae Bell-Haynes came off the bench to lead Vermont in scoring with 17, including going 6 of 7 from the free throw line. Ethan O'Day had 12 points and seven rebounds including 6 of 8 from the free throw line for the Catamounts.
Canisius took an early 15-10 lead in the first half until Vermont responded with a 10-4 run, including eight in a row from Bell-Haynes, to take a 26-22 halftime lead. Canisius battled back in the second half, where Valenti scored 14 of his 24 points.
