Middle Tennessee tops ODU 62-48, advances in C-USA
EL PASO, Texas -- Neiko Hunter scored 16 points to lead No. 3 seed Middle Tennessee past sixth-seeded Old Dominion 62-48 in a quarterfinal game of the Conference USA tournament on Thursday.
Middle Tennessee (24-8) will face Tulsa (19-12) in the semifinals on Friday.
After Richard Ross hit a jumper to give ODU (16-17) a 2-0 lead, Middle Tennessee scored the next 11 points, including six from Hunter, and never trailed again.
The Blue Raiders took a 30-19 advantage into halftime and opened the second period with a 12-4 run, opening up a 19-point lead and cruised to victory.
Middle Tennessee shot 54.3 percent from the field while limiting the Monarchs to 32.1 percent shooting, including just 4-of-15 from 3-point range, and blocking eight ODU shots.
Tweety Knight and Kerry Hammonds II scored 11 points apiece in the win.
Ambrose Mosley paced ODU with 13 points. Ross added 12 and Keenan Palmore scored 10.
