D.J. Covington leads VMI over Gardner-Webb 90-77
CONWAY, S.C. -- D.J. Covington scored 21 points and Rodney Glasgow added 20 points and five assists as No. 2 seed Virginia Military defeated third-seeded Gardner-Webb 90-77 in a Big South quarterfinal on Friday night.
VMI (19-11) will play top-seeded Coastal Carolina (19-12) in the semifinals on Saturday.
QJ Peterson hit a 3-pointer to give the Keydets a 79-61 lead with 4:01 to play. Gardner-Webb answered with a 12-2 run, including three-straight 3s by Tyler Strange, to pull within 81-73. The Keydets closed on a 9-4 run to cap the scoring.
Covington was 10 of 13 from the field and had nine rebounds and four blocks. Glasgow made 7 of 12 shots, including two 3-pointers. Peterson finished with 19 points.
Jerome Hill scored 22 points, and grabbed 16 rebounds for the second game in a row to lead Gardner-Webb (18-15). Strange had 15 points, including four 3-pointers.
