Oregon State rolls over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 77-63
CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Roberto Nelson scored 26 points and Devon Collier added 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead Oregon State to a 77-63 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff Friday night.
Davon Haynes had 18 points for the Golden Lions (2-7). Tevin Hammond had 10 assists and DeAndre McIntyre scored 12 points.
Oregon State (4-2) scored the first seven points and streaked to a 12-2 lead.
The Golden Lions took their first lead on a layup by Sean Tingle that made it 26-25 with 5:46 remaining in the half.
The Beavers went into the break with a 36-32 lead thanks to a buzzer beating put-back by Langston Morris-Walker.
Oregon State built a cushion early in the second half thanks in part to Golden Lions turnovers. A steal and breakaway dunk by Collier put the Beavers ahead 47-38 with 16:24 left.
The Beavers led by as many as 20 in the second half.
The teams were scheduled to play Dec. 7, but the game was rescheduled three times as the Golden Lions were unable to fly out of Dallas, Texas due to inclement weather.
The delay meant lengthy layoffs for both teams. The Beavers previous game was a 93-81loss at DePaul on Dec. 1. The Golden Lions last game was a 65-72 loss to Hampton on Nov. 30.
Nelson and Collier entered the game as the top scoring duo in the nation, averaging 25 and 23 points, respectively.
It was Collier's fourth straight game with at least 20 points and has shot 77 percent from the floor in that span.
Nelson has scored in double digits for 23 straight games.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff now has lost seven straight games, all on the road. The Golden Lions home opener is set for Jan. 18.
Haynes came into the game leading the Golden Lions with 12.4 points per game and 7.6 rebounds.
