Green, Holy Cross defense smothers Hartford 80-55
UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- Eric Green scored a career-high 18 points and a dominating defensive effort propels Holy Cross to 80-55 win over Hartford in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off tournament Sunday night.
The Crusaders (3-3) set the tone for the game early on defense, holding Hartford (2-5) to a single point in the first 11 minutes of play and limiting the Hawks to a single field goal in the first half. Hartford scored their first field goal on an Oren Faulk layup with 3:11 remaining in the half to make the score 26-10.
The Hawks made their second field goal of the game when Corban Wroe sank a 3-pointer with 16:27 remaining in the second half. Hartford would finish the night shooting 15 of 40 from the field.
Mark Nwakamma and Yolonzo Moore II sank back to back 3-pointers to pull the Hawks to within 49-28, but the Crusaders responded with an 11-0 run to go up by 32 with 8:52 remaining.
