ELON, N.C. -- Billy Baron had 26 points on 5-of-10 3-point shooting to lead Canisius over Georgia State 79-71 in the consolation round of the NIT Season Tip-Off at Elon University.
Canisius (3-2) led only 71-66 when Baron made a 3-pointer with 1:15 to go that gave Canisius an 8-point lead. The Griffins made 5 of 6 free throws in the final minute to close out the win. Chris Perez added 22 points and seven rebounds. Baron added six rebounds and five assists, and Perez made all three of his 3-point attempts.
The Griffins were 13 of 23 from 3-point range while Georgia State was only 3 of 20.
Ryan Harrow led the Panthers (2-3) with 23 points and Curtis Washington had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Harrow got the Panthers within 51-49 on a layup with 12:31 to go, but they never got closer.
