Pepperdine beats San Diego 75-64 in WCC opener
MALIBU, Calif. -- Malcolm Brooks scored a career-high 20 points to lead Pepperdine to a 75-64 victory over San Diego in a West Coast Conference opener Saturday night.
Jeremy Major added 13 points and seven assists for the Waves (8-5, 1-0 WCC). His 3-pointer with 7:12 left gave Pepperdine the lead for good at 61-58 and his jumper with 1:32 to go put the Waves up 71-64. Stacy Davis had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Brendan Lane added 18 points.
Dennis Kramer's 3-pointer for San Diego tied the game at 58-58, but Lane and Major answered with 10 straight points to give the Waves a 68-58 lead.
San Diego (9-5, 0-1) scrambled to catch up, but missed all five shots with three turnovers in the final 3 minutes.
Johnny Dee led San Diego with 26 points and sparked a 19-6 surge that gave the Toreros a 53-52 lead with 11:39 to play.
