Loyola Marymount knocks off San Diego 65-62
LOS ANGELES -- Evan Payne scored 16 points as Loyola Marymount held on for 65-62 West Coast Conference victory over San Diego Monday night.
Gabe Levin, who scored four points in the final 1:40 of the game, had 12 points. Alex Osborne added 11 and Anthony Ireland had 10 for Loyola Marymount (10-4, 2-0 WCC).
Johnny Dee had a hot night for San Diego (9-6, 0-2), making 6 of 10 attempts beyond the arc for 28 points.
The game was close throughout as there were nine lead changes.
San Diego held a 32-28 lead at the half. The Toreros still held a 40-36 advantage at the 15:53 mark of the second period and were ahead 54-51 with 6:51 remaining when Loyola-Marymount went on a 10-0 run to lead 61-54. San Diego struck back on a 3-point shot from Dee to close to 63-62 with 44 seconds remaining, but could not retake the lead.
